Cons: Sluggish operational speed; competing Sony players offer 3D for about the same price; last year’s Samsung Blu-ray player had questionable reliability.

Summary: This Samsung Blu-ray player has excellent image quality, outstanding features for the price, and a slick design–we just wish it were a little faster.

Cons: 3D price premium is high; buttons on top of the player are inconvenient; last year’s Samsung Blu-ray player had reliability issues.

Summary: This Samsung Blu-ray player has excellent Blu-ray performance and is loaded with features, but you pay a lot for the 3D functionality.

Cons: Sluggish operational speed; no built-in Wi-Fi; compatible Wi-Fi dongle is too expensive; last year’s Samsung Blu-ray player had questionable reliability.

Summary: The BD-C5500’s expandable Samsung Apps platform and DLNA compatibility make it stand out from other entry-level players, although it’s one of the slower players we’ve tested. A good choice if you want a cheaper Samsung Blu-ray player
